Florida quarterback Aaron Philo will be listed as questionable in the initial SEC availability report on Wednesday night, sources told ESPN's Pete Thamel.
Philo is dealing with a shoulder injury he suffered late in Florida's 38-19 loss to South Carolina and has been limited in practice this week as the Gators prepare to play at No. 7 Texas (noon ET, ABC).
Sophomore backup Tramell Jones Jr. replaced Philo in the fourth quarter against the Gamecocks and would be in line to start if Philo is unavailable. Jones threw for 40 yards on 6-of-8 passing with an interception and led one late touchdown drive in the loss.
Florida star wide receiver Vernell Brown III did practice Wednesday and was "the best he's looked" since injuring his knee, a source told ESPN. He has a "real shot" to play against Texas after missing Florida's past two games.
Philo, a Georgia Tech transfer, has thrown for 1,341 yards on 70.5% passing, rushed for 104 yards and scored 12 total touchdowns with three interceptions in his first season as a starter. Brown has 17 catches for 271 yards and two touchdowns through four games this season.
The duo helped lead Florida to a 4-0 start and a rapid rise to No. 8 in the AP Top 25, but the Gators have dropped out of the Top 25 following back-to-back losses to Missouri and South Carolina.
CBS Sports first reported Philo's status for the Texas game was in question.
