Rutgers starting quarterback Dylan Lonergan will not return to Saturday's game at No. 24 Northwestern after leaving in the first quarter with an apparent head injury, coach Greg Schiano told Peacock at halftime.
Lonergan stayed down after a 5-yard run during which he took a big hit from Northwestern's Kobie McKinzie. He went to the injury tent and then was seen running on the sideline.
Backup AJ Surace entered the game for Lonergan. Surace also replaced Lonergan in a Week 2 game at Boston College as Lonergan sat out with an undisclosed injury.
Sean Ashenfelder then replaced Surace midway through the third quarter.
Lonergan did not attempt a pass before leaving the field. He entered the game with 1,066 passing yards with 10 touchdowns and six interceptions.
