David Payne, Player of the Match: My plans were slightly different (to usual). Tonight was a lot more about going across. It was about what their strengths were and trying to combat that. We know where his (Charles) strengths are, so trying to stay away from his arc. Luckily it worked tonight. (On having an excellent bowling attack and how it feels) It takes a lot of pressure off me. So many world class bowlers. Real strength lies in how we work together and communicate. So far, so good.
Sam Curran, Desert Vipers captain: (On if there were jitters in the camp in the chase) Not really, no. Interesting kind of game but another two points is good. If they got 135-140, would have been tricky. Bat first was probably the right option. Payne bowled beautifully along with the spinners. Tomorrow on the same pitch, let's see how that goes.
Sikandar Raza, Sharjah Warriorz captain: (Reason behind the decision at the toss) Both games we have won, have been batting first. In chasing, we have not got combinations right. Thought if we could give our batters a chance to bat with freedom...if we could get 140-145, it has been tough to chase. We knew they have taken a lot of wickets in the powerplay. When you lose three in the powerplay, with the pitch and their quality, it got tougher. When your backs are against the wall, your character comes through. Every game is like a final, so if we play (and win) three in a row, no team will be as prepared to play a final more than us (because we have been playing each game like a final).
9:30pm Not the most clinical run-chase of all time, but the Vipers get the job done, yet again. They were not chasing a truckload of runs, meaning that they only needed one of their batters to play a substantial hand. Captain Curran did that, with Nawaz, Lawrence and Bruce's cameos ensuring the Vipers did not lose their grip on the contest.
The Warriorz did get a few wickets here and there, but were always playing catch-up. Raza and his captaincy calls were also not quite up to scratch, and with only a few league games remaining, the Warriorz will have to get their act together soon.
