Well folks, that wraps up all the action from Shagorika for today. Thank you for tuning in and staying with us throughout the game. Do join us again for the second match of the series on April 29th at the same time. Until then, this is Rashad Mahbub signing off on behalf of Harshith Gowda. Shubho Biday!
Litton Das: "[A good start to the series with the win] Yeah, definitely. I think it was a really good match. I'm happy with the way we batted, especially Hridoy. He and Emon played really well in the middle, and obviously, Shamim finished the game. [Losing only 1 wicket in the powerplay] 183 is a big total at this ground because the wicket was not that easy to bat on; it was slow during the change of innings. I said we needed runs in the powerplay. If you get a good score early, it makes it easier for the middle order. The way Emon, Hridoy, and Shamim batted made it look easy, but it really wasn't. [Looking comfortable out there] Yeah, definitely. But that ball stayed a little bit low. As a batsman, one ball is all it takes, and when it stays down like that, you can't do anything."
Muhammad Jamil : "Luckily Tanzid got out in time. If he streched few more over, it'd be difficult for BD to chase down."
Mahi: "@Ahsan, did anything happen thrilling eventually?"
Player of the Match, Tawhid Hridoy: "[Good pitch to bat on?] Yeah, very good to bat. [Batting with Tanzid] Actually, I was thinking about the situation and tried to execute accordingly. I felt we needed runs at that time, which is why I attacked. [Partnership with Shamim] Shamim played extremely well. He came in and played tremendous cricket."
Nick Kelly: "[Nearly won the game?] Yeah, I thought 180 was a pretty competitive total on that surface. At the halfway mark, we thought we might have been just above par. So, we were happy with 180, but unfortunately, it wasn't enough. [77/2 in the 10th over] Yeah, definitely. After the 10th, we thought we were on top. But I think it just shows in T20; it's not letting the fielding team settle after a couple of wickets. We felt like after Sodhi got that third wicket, we were right on top and thought maybe we could squeeze for a couple of overs. But it wasn't the case. They came out with some good intent, and once the batters were in, they were able to play their shots. Our execution probably wasn't quite where it needed to be today. [10-15 runs short?] Yeah, always; when you lose the game, you think you probably needed a little bit more. Their hitting ability tonight was nice. I think they had eight or nine sixes while we were around the four to five mark, so that was probably the main difference. But we'll learn from today and be back in a couple of days to go again."
5:52 pm It turned into a brilliant run chase, with the middle order really stepping up and showing some serious power hitting. From the very beginning, the intent was obvious; the hosts came out aggressively and ended up outplaying the visitors to go 1-0 up in the series. Tanzid had a bit of luck early on when Sodhi dropped him at deep third in the first over. That let the opening pair settle, and they put on 41 runs before Saif was caught at deep midwicket in the sixth over. Litton looked comfortable for a while and struck a few nice boundaries but couldn't go on and was out for 21 runs. The momentum really shifted when Tawhid and Parvez got together. They took the attack to the bowlers, putting on 57 runs in just 28 balls, which changed the game. Parvez played a quick knock of 28 off 14 before being caught at long off. After that, Shamim joined Tawhid and the two kept things under control while still scoring freely. They kept finding the boundary and brought the required rate down nicely. By then, the visitors were clearly under pressure. In the end, it was just too much firepower for New Zealand. The boundaries kept coming, and the crowd in Chattogram had plenty to cheer about. Tawhid stayed unbeaten on 51 from 27 balls, while Shamim added a lively 31 off just 13. New Zealand seemed to lose their grip a bit in the middle overs and maybe they could have tried something different with their bowling options, perhaps giving Foxcroft a go.
goughy: "NZ C or otherwise, an embarassing time for the New Zealanders."

Scores Level
Asif Inzamam: "17 Run scored in the last ball of the 17th Over by Fischer. "
Matthew: "Oops. All fell apart for the Kiwis. Congrats Tigers, and we'll see you in game two!"
DaWolf: "I still think Foxcroft should have bowled. The spinners were harder to hit in the first innings, and Sodhi had taken a couple of wickets. But take nothing from Bangladesh - this has been a great chase in the last 10 overs. "
NJ: "Inexperience glaring from NZ rn, poor line and lengths, great from Bangladesh, they saved wickets to capitalise on opportunities like this"
He said the cameos from Shamim and Parvez were as good as scoring fifties

"That's the joys of being an allrounder - you get sort of two bites of the cherry," says the big New Zealand medium pacer and lower-order dasher
New Zealand, with many of their first-choice players currently at the IPL or at the PSL, have a barely recognisable side
