4:18 pm Well, it was inevitable given the forecast and how things unfolded here in Chattogram; with the relentless rain and poor conditions, the match has officially been called off. There is nothing to be done against the weather gods but surrender and move on unless, of course, you're a fan of the rain, in which case you can stay a while to enjoy the scenery, the rhythmic sound of the droplets, and that distinct scent of a rain-soaked ground. Regardless, we look ahead to the third game on May 2nd in Mirpur, where we'll be hoping for much better weather. Until then, this is Rashad Mahbub closing the comms for now. Goodbye and take care!
Kay: "Fair to say this one is just about goneski"
KiwiFan: "I totally agree about Ravindra and Allen. it would be a much more exciting series with the both of them, especially Rach."
3:35 pm Jp: "Looking at the forecast, a washout Looking the only result. Tell me I'm wrong!" I'd love to tell you that you're wrong, JP, but the evidence is stacking up against us. With the rain still coming down heavily and the New Zealand players already moving into the indoor nets to get their work in, it's clear they aren't expecting to be out on the middle anytime soon. When the heavy rollers are out just to keep the covers on the ground, you know the wind and rain are winning the battle. We're holding onto a sliver of hope, but the forecast is certainly leaning toward the result we all want to avoid!
Mustafa Moudi: "Rachin Ravindra is part of KKR's Sqaud in IPL, but havent played a single match while Finn Allen doesnt seems to be getting any further chances there. Wish both could have been part of this series. New Zealand could have a given a better fight !!"
Ridwan : "I think if Rain continues till 4.15 pm, the game will be abounded as ground needs at least 30-45 mins to be ready. "
Mustafa Moudi: "Just checked the Squads of both these sides and surprised that Bangladesh have 3 WKs while NZ have just 2. Quite rare that NZ's WK are lesser than their opponent nowadays !!"
2:50 pm We still have no further updates from the stadium in Chattogram. It is still raining, and the covers are firmly in place over the pitch and the square, held down by heavy rollers to ensure they aren't caught by the gusting winds. We continue to wait patiently, searching for a glimmer of hope on a bleak summer afternoon in the port city. Just beside the stadium, cars and public transport whizz over the flyover, the sound of splashing water echoing through the grounds.
Ilman: "Even with New Zealand's batting order being equally powerful, we must back our boys for a big hit. I know its hard to believe but Bangladesh does have firepower for T20s. Tigers must also back their bowlers through the innings to deliver. A T20 game is not won with just our batters, all 11 players must be involved and contribute equally. "
2:25 pm mazhar: "Could you Please someone inform the Cut off time to abandon the match." 4.50pm is the cut off time to start a 5-overs contest, Mazhar.
Muhammad Arif B: "Yes, Bangladesh scored 110 runs in 8 overs in the first match but NZ also have power hitters in their batting line up and they showed in the first match too, going to be an exciting match if rain permits."
tanjir: "Weather Apps shows that Chattogram sky will be clear from 3.30 pm. Will they use floodlights as this is a day game?" They used floodlights right from the beginning for the first T20I game.
Ilman : "Bangladesh scored 110 runs in 8 overs last game against NZ. If this game is reduced then surely they open with Parvez and Hridoy with Shamim at 3. Then they have to play each over like its a super over! "
2:10 pm jimmyjaat: "SHER... this is the kind of creativty Bangladesh needs to match the levels of top teams, they need take some bold decisions like this "
Forhad: "I'm a few kilometers away from the stadium, and given the weather conditions, it looks like the match will be abandoned without a single ball being bowled."
Sher: "Will BD promote the in-form middle order if we somehow manage to get a 5-overs/side game?" Interesting point, Sher.
A A Musabbir : "Finally it stops raining in Mymensingh. What about Chattogram? " It's still raining in Chattogram, Musabbir.
Shamim Hossain: "[Plan at the crease] Whenever I go out to bat, I always try to stay positive. At that moment, runs were required and I believed fully in my strengths, which is why I found success. [Ridiculous six stroke] I have been training for those types of shots for a long time; I take inspiration from AB de Villiers and always try to implement that kind of improvisation shot during practice. [Delayed start game preparation] As players, we need to be prepared at all times. We have no control over the weather, so we must stay mentally ready since the game could start whenever. [Music in the dressing room?] No, we don't play any [laughter]."
Katene Clarke: "[Maiden T20I fifty] Yeah, lucky enough to get some runs. I think we showed we've got the ability to put a total on the board, so hopefully we can hold them off as well. [Did your father contact you after the game] He unfortunately doesn't have WhatsApp, so I couldn't get in touch with him directly, but messages were passed through the family. It's good. [How do you adapt mentally in rainy conditions?] The conditions aren't ideal, but you have to keep your mind sharp and stay focused. It could be a quick turnaround to get on the park as soon as possible."
Protick: "I am 95% sure that this match won't take place at all. It is heavily raining at chittagong. This will continue till 5-6 pm. So, nearly no chance of play . "
1:30 pm The covers remain on at the stadium in Chattogram. The toss has been delayed, and we will bring you further updates as soon as more information becomes available.
1:16 pm Our correspondent Mohammad Isam joins us with an update from the ground: Bangladesh and New Zealand teams have arrived at the Chattogram venue for the 2nd T20I, but the bad news is the thunderstorm and heavy rain currently in the port city. The pitches are covered, while most of the outfield is taking a real beating from the rain. The other good news is the excellent drainage facilities at the venue, so we can hope for a match, only if the rain stops for at least an hour.
1:10 pm New Zealand, on the other hand, weren't out of it for a long time in that game. But things slipped away in the second half of the chase, with their bowling unit losing a bit of control under pressure. There were still positives though; half-centuries from Katene Clarke and Dane Cleaver give them something to build on, but they'll need a more complete performance today. Plenty to look forward to, as long as the weather holds up. We're still waiting on the toss, so stick around, and if you haven't already, you can check out our match preview for more on the teams and key stats.
1:05 pm Bangladesh go into this one with a 1-0 lead after a really impressive chase of 183 in the last match. It's not every day you see their middle order play with that kind of freedom, but Towhid Hridoy, Shamim Hossain, and Parvez Hossain were outstanding. Hridoy has spoken about their newfound attacking philosophy, believing that offense is the best form of defense, and they will be eager to replicate that intent today to seal the series.
1 pm Good afternoon to everyone tuning in from around the world. Welcome to our live ball-by-ball coverage of this T20I series between Bangladesh and New Zealand. We're coming to you from Chattogram for the second match of this three-game series. I'm Rashad Mahbub, and I'll be with you through all the action today. There's a bit of concern around the weather at the moment; the clouds are hanging over the ground and rain is in the forecast, but fingers crossed it stays away and we get a full game in.
