8:06pm That will be all from us for this game. But the IPL is still on for the day, with MI taking on RCB. RCB, by the way, have gotten off to a decent start too. Hop over to that game, and we hope to see you again tomorrow. Until then, it is goodbye!
Jamie Overton, Player of the Match: Felt good, bit tight in the end but nice to get over the line and get two points on the board. It was just doing what I have been doing well - keeping it at the top of the stumps and trying to make them hit (off that length). Nice to get a couple of wickets and to get Josh out at that point was crucial. (On what he works on) Working all the time with Eric. Just about cleaning it up (and being more accurate). The way I have to bowl in India is very different to every other part of the world. Just about doing what you have been doing well. Batters are allowed to hit good shots. As long as you are able to control what you can control. (On his body) Feeling good, a few niggles here and there, but we keep pushing on.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK captain: Yes, but at the end, chasing 200, you know it will always go to the 18-19th over. It was tacky for a new batter to go and play shots. Been a while since we chased 200, so good to chase it. Huge credit and hats off to Josh - he played some amazing shots, and we did not have answers to. After the first time-out, Sanju came in and said, if we have it in us, we have to make a comeback. That just pumped up everyone and after that, it was about getting those wickets. Everyone was eager to make a comeback and that determination changed the course of the game. It was about getting the bowlers right - how you can attack from one end, defend from one end. It was about getting our best bowlers for 3-4 overs and that 6-10 overs phase, Noor and Jamie bowled really well. Anywhere around 220, would have been happy chasing. The way they were playing, it felt like 240-250, but we did very well to get it down to 200. Somewhere around 220-230 would have been par. Some of our guys need that break. It has been hot in this part of the country. Most of them playing here for the first time. We needed that break and we are trying to tick off those boxes (in practice). (How they intend to keep winning) Still three games to go, but about keeping it simple. It is easy to say when you are under pressure, but that is the mantra we are going to stick with.
Rishabh Pant, LSG captain: It was a great game. Everything was coming up nicely. We knew we would be put under pressure in the powerplay. When you come to Chennai, that is the kind of cricket you expect. Felt there was enough on the board. Fielding standards have to be up there, too many dropped catches. Urvil played a fantastic and unbelievable knock, like Inglis for us. The team showed character (to come back). Definitely few areas to work on but kudos to CSK - they held their nerve better than us. The way we started, we would have liked to have more. We knew 200-210 would be a good target. They got off to a flier but we knew it was getting difficult after the powerplay. (On Shahbaz possibly bowling the 20th) That came to mind, but it was a tough call to have. We needed to back someone. Aiden has done it a lot of times. That is why we believe in every individual.
Urvil Patel: The coaches told me to hold my shape and hit the ball well. Rutu just told me that the wicket is a little low and to be ready for it. He did not say a lot, and just asked me to play the way I did.
7:39pm Phew. Lots of finger-nails would have been bitten, especially by those in CSK yellow. After the powerplay, they were cruising. Urvil smashed his way to a record-breaking 13-ball half-century and at that point, it felt CSK would canter home with room to spare. But then, Urvil fell, and Gaikwad fell too, and the middle order hit a submerged log. The decision to send Veer as the Impact Player instead of Sarfaraz also raised eyebrows but Veer, in conjunction with Dube, ensured that they got the job done. Just.
LSG will be proud of how much they stretched this game, but will ultimately be disappointed at the dropped catches. Veer was given two lives; Urvil was given one too, and in the end, all of that added up. They will also feel they could have done better in the powerplay and their inability to win those moments has now pushed them to the brink of elimination, with an RCB win tonight confirming their fate.
10 off 6. No clue how we have gotten here, but here we are. And now is the time for spin. And it will be Markram. LSG keeping the left-arm-spin match-up away from the two LHBs. Over the wicket
12 off 8. A few CSK, CSK chants going around now. Over the wicket
