Things have gone from bad to worse for several clubs to begin the 2026-27 NHL season. The Philadelphia Flyers, a pleasantly surprising success last season, came into this campaign with respectable 50-1 odds to win the Stanley Cup. But after a miserable 0-5-3 start, the Flyers are out to 130-1 for the title and have seen their point total O/U fall from 93.5 to 83.5.
The Detroit Red Wings weren't expected to be much of a contender with preseason odds of 150-1 but after a similarly horrid 1-3-2 start, they're out to 300-1 for the Cup and have seen their point total O/U fall from 86.5 to 80.5. The Flyers (+425) and Red Wings (+700) are the two longest teams in the Eastern Conference to make the playoffs.
One other team that has seen its Stanley Cup odds diminish is the New York Rangers, though they have actually had a solid start to the campaign at 6-2-0. New York's lengthening from 80-1 to 100-1 for the Stanley Cup is more so rooted in superstar goaltender Igor Shesterkin being ruled out for the season with a right knee injury. The Rangers were a popular pick among public bettors in futures markets before the season.
The top of the Stanley Cup odds board is similar to how it was at the beginning of the season, though the Carolina Hurricanes have pulled away as the standalone favorite at +600, while the Florida Panthers -- who began the season tied for the best odds -- are now third at +750. The Colorado Avalanche remain the second favorite at +700.
