Nyah Green, a 6-foot shooting guard at Allen (Texas) who is widely considered the No. 1 freshman prospect in the country, has given a verbal commitment to Louisville.
With 19 offers on the table, Green said the other finalists were Tennessee, South Carolina, Baylor and LSU.
"My decision finally came down to Baylor and Louisville," she said. "I chose Louisville because of their great coaching staff. They are genuine and they let their players play. I want them to make me a better player and give me the truth about my game so I can develop."
Green had recently returned from a trip to Louisville and saw Jeff Walz's Cardinals top Pittsburgh 65-36 on Sunday night.
Green brings a rare combination of size and athleticism to the back court and is a streaky scorer with off-the-charts potential. As a freshman, she averaged 11 points, four rebounds and three assists for Allen.
Louisville's five-player 2016 class is ranked sixth in the country. The class features Ciera Johnson, Kylee Shook, Sydney Zambrotta, Jazmine Jones and Bionca Dunham.
Green is the Cardinals' first commit in the 2017, 2018 or 2019 classes.
