INDIANAPOLIS -- Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell each scored 34 points as the Indiana Fever defeated the Connecticut Sun 111-91 on Friday.
The Fever's dynamic duo scored 30 or more for the fourth game this season, extending their WNBA single-season record for a duo. It's also the first time in WNBA history the same teammates have scored at least 30 in consecutive games.
Clark and Mitchell dominated the action for the Fever on Friday, scoring or assisting on 92 of the team's 111 points, the third most in a game in WNBA history, according to Elias Sports Bureau. They set the record Sunday at the Chicago Sky with 98.
Fever coach Stephanie White marveled at the combined talent of her star duo, saying they reminded her of Diana Taurasi and Cappie Pondexter, who helped lead the Phoenix Mercury to WNBA titles in 2007 and 2009.
"You think back to those Phoenix days, like they were a dynamic backcourt that could put up big numbers, could both get their own shot, could get other people involved," White said. "But it's been a long time since we've seen the explosiveness of two players like what Kelsey and Caitlin have been doing, and doing it with remarkable consistency."
Clark added 12 assists, marking the fifth time this year she has had a double-double with at least 30 points and 10 assists.
Mitchell notched her 24th straight 20-point game in the Fever's final game before a three-week break for the FIBA Women's World Cup. Indiana has won seven of nine as Clark, Aliyah Boston and White head to Berlin for the tournament. Boston scored 14 points.
Clark, who was limited to 13 games because of injuries last season and dealt with back issues earlier this season, said she feels "probably the best I've ever felt in my career."
"I think it was a battle for the first 20 games for me to really find my confidence again, mostly in my body. Now I feel like just playing, not thinking," she said.
Diamond Miller finished with 19 points and Nell Angloma had 17 to lead Connecticut, which has lost six of its past eight games.
Indiana went on a 10-0 run to end the first quarter and start the second, nearly erasing all of a 28-14 deficit. Clark and Mitchell then combined for the first 12 points in an 18-2 run to close the first half, giving the Fever a 58-43 lead.
After Connecticut cut the deficit to 62-52 midway through the third quarter, Indiana answered with a 14-5 run that extended the margin to 76-57. The Sun never recovered.
During the third quarter, Mitchell dished her 911th assist, moving her past current Fever assistant coach Briann January and into second place on Indiana's all-time leaders list.
