Manchester United managed to record their first win of the Premier League season despite an early scare by Ipswich Town at Old Trafford.
The hosts made it rain with five goals as Bruno Fernandes helped himself to a hat trick, making sure United were not going to be undone by another one of the Premier League's new boys following the opening weekend loss to Hull.
Marcus Rashford also made his return to the United XI and can be happy with his contribution on the day.
Here's how ESPN rated Michael Carrick's side.
Manager rating (out of 10)
Michael Carrick, 7 -- Brought about several changes from the Hull City debacle and they all paid off. It also showed the mild mannered Carrick will not stand for below par performances this season despite it still being such early days. Carrick's decision to bring Rashford back into the fold was always going to be under the microscope and it paid off here as Rashford put in a good display. Didn't panic when Ipswich took the lead and made sure United kept calm on their way to playing back into the game.
Player ratings (1-10; 10 = best, 5 = average)
GK Senne Lammens, 7 -- Made a flying save to stop Daezen Maeda and there were several others as the Belgian kept United from falling further behind. A quiet second half as United were in full flow in attack.
LB Luke Shaw, 4 -- Beaten on numerous occasions including on the opener and was generally sluggish all game. This performance will only increase rumours around United's desire to bring in another left-back before the window shuts.
CB Harry Maguire, 6 -- A decent showing but was part of the mess as United conceded the opener. Lucky to see his deflected effort turned in but as usual Maguire didn't hide despite issues in defence.
CB Lisandro MartÃnez, 7 -- Caught sleeping at times in defence, including getting outdone by Enciso, while he also lost possession on Ipswich's second. Looks far off the pace and needs to get upto speed quickly.
RB Diogo Dalot, 6 -- Steady enough on the ball but disappointing at times when Ipswich looked to target his flank. It's another concern for United at full-back and Dalot will need to improve. Also came close to a rare goal with a curling effort.
CM Kobbie Mainoo, 7 -- Aside from Fernandes probably United's best player. Sharp, precise and always looked to take control of the game. Filtered some nice passes around and also carried the ball well. Didn't panic when United fell behind and managed to bring about composure.
CM Youri Tielemans, 5 -- Disappointing yet again and might be lacking the fitness required as physically he suffered here. All too often he lacked the recovery pace to help United regain shape, leaving big gaps for Ipswich to exploit.
CM Bruno Fernandes, 10 -- A hat trick, an assist and nearly scored an outrageous fourth goal from distance. As so often is the case when United are behind, Fernandes steps up and looks to lead by example.
LW Marcus Rashford, 7 -- A first league start for United since December 2024 and was a handful throughout. Rashford showed spark and energy looking to drive at Ipswich and he linked well at times with Cunha. It will take time for him to fully integrate again but encouraging signs.
RW Bryan Mbeumo, 7 -- Got his goal in the end but the performance overall was disappointing. Failed to really strike fear into Ipswich and penetrate the backline while defensively he was sloppy.
CF Matheus Cunha, 7 -- Began through the middle but had license to drift, though didn't make the same mistake of cluttering the left channel as he did against Hull. Some nice touches including an assist as United levelled up the game.
