Marcus Fraser didn't walk away with the Thailand Golf Championship title he was hoping for, but he did achieve a secondary goal.
The Australian, along with countryman Scott Hend, American Jonathan Moore and India's Anirban Lahiri, earned the four available spots into the 144th Open Championship to be held next July at St. Andrews.
"That's why I came up here to try and do -- get one of those spots at the Open at St. Andrews next year, so it's great, I'm excited," Fraser said. "I played there in 2005, the first major I ever played, and was jumping out of my skin on the first tee. But hopefully I will be a bit calmer next year."
Lee Westwood held off Fraser and reigning U.S. Open champion Martin Kaymer to win the Thailand Golf Championship on Sunday.
Tiger Woods won the Open held in 2005 at St. Andrews. Louis Oosthuizen took the title when the major returned there in 2010.
The next event in the Open Qualifying series is the Joburg Open at Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club in South Africa from Feb. 26-March 1. The top three players who finish in the top 10 at that event and are not already qualified for the year's third major earn spots in the field.
