SUVA, Fiji -- American Matt Kuchar shot a 2-over 74 in blustery conditions Thursday and is tied for second place after the first round of the Fiji International.
The leaderboard at the jointly sanctioned PGA Tour of Australasia and the OneAsia Tour event was dominated by Australian players.
Josh Geary led after shooting an even-par 72, and he is 2 strokes ahead of Kuchar, Daniel Nisbet, Nick Cullen, Alistair Presnell and R.J. Caracella.
Kuchar, who arrived from South Korea, where he had played on the winning United States team at the Presidents Cup, had three birdies and five bogeys.
"It was purely about survival out there," he said of the gusty conditions at the Natadola Bay resort.
Fijian-born Vijay Singh was in a tie for 33rd at 6 over.
