The Los Angeles Lakers announced that rookie forward Julius Randle had right foot surgery Tuesday morning to fix an issue dating back to high school that reportedly led to him falling in the 2014 NBA draft.
Randle had a screw replaced in the fifth metatarsal of that foot, which he initially got after breaking the foot during the beginning of his senior season in high school.
The surgery was performed by Dr. David Thordarson of the Cedars-Sinai Orthopaedic Center. Randle, who is sidelined for the season after breaking his right leg during his NBA debut, is expected to make a full recovery, the Lakers announced.
There were concerns entering the draft that Randle, whom the Lakers drafted seventh overall out of Kentucky, would need surgery to remove the screw, but he didn't have the procedure and the Lakers later deemed that Randle didn't need it.
