Akron 79, Duquesne 61

AKRON, Ohio (AP) -- Darryl Peterson scored 17 points, including

eight straight in the decisive run that sent Akron to a 79-61 win

over Duquesne on Wednesday night.

The Dukes (0-3) trailed by only two points when Peterson made

two free throws, hit a 3-pointer and converted a three-point play

to give the Zips (2-0) a 66-56 lead with 5:16 remaining.

Duquesne failed to score for two minutes during Peterson's

personal 8-0 spurt. DeVario Hudson's dunk broke the drought for the

Dukes, who never cut their deficit below double digits again.

Romeo Travis also scored 17 points for Akron. Nick Dials added

11 and Rob Preston had 10.

Bryant McAllister led Duquesne with 17 points. Hudson had 12 and

was the only other Dukes player in double figures.
