UNLV 80, Colorado State 72

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) -- Louis Amundson scored six of his 22

points in the final minute and Jo'Van Adams added 21 points to lead

UNLV to an 80-72 victory over Colorado State on Saturday.

Amundson, 8-for-16 shooting, broke a 72-72 tie with a driving

layup with 54 seconds left for UNLV (14-10, 8-4 Mountain West

Conference), then converted four free throw attempts after Colorado

State missed shots.

The Rebels ended a two-game losing streak and beat Colorado

State (13-12, 2-10) for the sixth straight time. They dominate the

series 23-7.

Jason Smith, who scored Colorado State's last points with a

jumper with a minute and six seconds left, led the Rams with 24

points and 12 rebounds. Michael Harrison had 16 points and Freddy

Robinson had 14 points for the Rams, who attempted to put together

back-to-back wins for the first time since Dec. 28 and 30.

Colorado State did make a game of it after Amundson's short

jumper put UNLV ahead 49-37 five minutes into the second half. The

Rams picked up the tempo, forcing four turnovers and Harrison put

them up 64-63 with 5:57 remaining.

But Adams, who had 17 of his points after halftime, had a

3-pointer and converted two free throws to give the Rebels the

lead, 72-70. Smith tied it at 72 with a soft jumper with 2:21 left,

but Colorado State never scored again, missing its last four shots.

UNLV led 39-31 at the half, but not before eight lead changes

and a layup by Jason Smith had the game tied at 19-19. Amundson

scored seven of the next nine points to put the Rebels ahead 28-21

and then Curtis Terry connected on two jumpers late in the half to

make it 39-29.
