LIU 84, NJIT 74

NEW YORK -- Julian Boyd posted his third straight double-double as Long Island University held off New Jersey Institute of Technology 84-74 Friday night for the Blackbirds' third straight win.

Boyd had 22 points and 11 rebounds for the Blackbirds (8-6), while Jamal Olasewere also had a double-double with 15 points and 10 boards.

LIU led by 21 points at 46-25 with 18:12 to play when the Highlanders (5-7) launched a 20-3 run to get within four points, at 49-45 with 12:50 left.

NJIT cut the deficit to three on a Chris Flores layup with 9:12 remaining, but could get no closer.

The Blackbirds hit 23 of 26 free throws in the second half, 27 of 33 overall.

Arjun Ohri scored 16 points off the bench to lead the Highlanders, making 4 of 6 3-pointers. NJIT was 12 of 29 from long range, but only 4 of 5 from the free-throw line.
