LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Anthony Hubbard scored 16 points and Morgan State broke open a close game late in the second half to defeat winless Liberty 67-62 Thursday night and snap a three-game skid.
The game was tied 10 times and the Bears led 35-33 at halftime.
Trailing 52-51 with 7:02 left, Morgan State (2-3) reeled off eight straight points, starting with four by Ian Chiles, and held the Flames without a field goal until only 1:02 remained.
The Bears, who came in shooting only 55.3 percent (52 of 94) from the free throw line, made 8 of 12 foul shots in the final 2 minutes and finished 17 of 27 (63 percent). However, they made only 2 of 15 3-pointers.
Chiles added 12 points and DeWayne Jackson 11 for Morgan State. The Bears had a 42-28 rebounding advantage, led by Justin Black with 12.
Casey Roberts scored 15 points to pace Liberty (0-7).
