WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Brandon Britt marked career highs with 13 free throws and 26 points as William & Mary topped Howard 78-69 in a nonconference contest Thursday night.
Britt went to the foul line a career-high 15 times and is averaging 8.1 free-throw attempts per game this year after going to the line 3.6 times per contest last year. He'd made only 59.6 percent (28 of 47) of those foul shots entering Thursday.
The Tribe (5-3) shot 90.3 percent (28 of 31) from the foul line Thursday.
Marcus Thornton and Tim Rusthoven added 13 points each and Rustoven seven rebounds for William & Mary.
Calvin Thompson led Howard (2-8) with a season-high 24 points on 11-of-26 shooting.
William & Mary led 38-30 at halftime. After Thompson's three-point play cut the deficit to 44-41 with 16:14 left, the Tribe went on an 8-2 run, and Howard never pulled closer than six points.
