BALTIMORE -- Dylon Cormier and Erik Etherly combined for 42 points to lift Loyola (MD) over Rider 71-65 Friday night in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play.
Cormier and Etherly posted almost identical stat lines, as each made seven shots from the field, including a 3-pointer, and six free throws en route to 21 points. Cormier added six assists and seven rebounds and Etherly had eight boards for Loyola (10-5, 2-1), which held a 38-29 rebounding advantage.
It was the first time this season Loyola had two players score over 20 points.
Loyola led 31-25 at halftime but Rider (6-9, 1-2) cut the deficit to two, 43-41, behind Dera Nd-Ezuma's layup at the 10:59 mark. However, Loyola rattled off 10 straight points to pull away. Robert Olson (10 points) capped the run with a layup while Cormier and Etherly both hit free throws during the spurt.
Daniel Stewart led Rider with 13 points.
