GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Trevis Simpson scored a season-high 30 points to propel UNC Greensboro past Samford 66-64 Thursday night in Southern Conference action.
Simpson scored 22 of the Spartans' 27 second-half points, including all 14 of their points in the final 8 minutes, to help UNC Greensboro (5-13, 3-4) hold off the Bulldogs.
Samford (7-13, 5-2), which came in on a four-game winning streak, got within a point twice before Simpson launched his personal spurt with the Spartans ahead 52-50. After the Bulldogs tied it at 55, Simpson answered with a jumper, a dunk and two free throws.
Samford closed to 66-64 on Clide Geffrard Jr.'s 3-pointer with 1:23 left, but was only able to get one shot off down the stretch, Geffrard's long, contested 3-point attempt. The Bulldogs had one more chance with 2.7 seconds left, but Nicholas Paulos stole the inbounds pass.
Tim Williams scored 19 points to lead Samford.
