VMI Keydets @ Longwood Lancers
VMI rolls by Longwood 86-66
FARMVILLE, Va. -- D.J. Covington tied a career-high with 33 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as Virginia Military cruised by Longwood 86-66 on Saturday.
VMI (18-11, 11-5 Big South) closed the first half on an 8-2 run for a 38-30 advantage before Covington scored his team's first eight points of the second half as the Keydets pulled away.
Two three-point plays and another make gave Covington eight second-half points before 3 minutes had gone by, as VMI took a 46-39 lead. Brian Brown's 3-pointer made it 49-39 and Longwood (8-23, 3-13) couldn't cut the deficit to single digits after that point.
Covington posted his 16th double-double of the season. QJ Peterson added 13 points for the Keydets. Rodney Glasgow had nine points and 10 assists.
Karl Ziegler scored 17 points to lead the Lancers. Tristan Carey had 16 points and 12 rebounds. Lucas Woodhouse and Leron Fisher scored 14 and 10, respectively.
