Caldwell Cougars @ Fairleigh Dickinson Knights
Farleigh Dickinson pulls away from Caldwell, 89-71
HACKENSACK, N.J. -- Mustafaa Jones scored 20 points Friday night to lift Farleigh Dickinson to its first season-opening win in a decade, beating Division II Caldwell 89-71 and kicking off new coach Greg Herenda's tenure with a win.
The Knights (1-0) last won an opener in 2002.
Caldwell (0-1) held a five-point lead early but Jones hit back-to-back 3-pointers to give the Knights the lead for good. Both 3s came on assists from Jayde Dawson, who scored 13 off the bench, joining Mathias Seilund (15), Xavier Harris (11) and Sidney Sanders, Jr., (10) in double figures. The Knights led by as many as 20 in the second half.
Led by Wyatt Polk's 16 points, four Caldwell starters scored in double figures. But the Cougars only shot 39 percent.
Caldwell played only eight players and, eventually, Farleigh Dickinson overwhelmed the Cougars, outscoring them 30-9 off the bench.
