IRVINE, Calif. -- Chris McNealy scored 15 points, to lead four players in double figures, as UC Irvine pulled away early from LIU Brooklyn for an 84-64 win Friday night.
Landon Atterberry scored LIU Brooklyn's first nine points, the last of which came on a 3-point shot with 15:44 left in the first half, to keep the Blackbirds close in the first few minutes of the game but Will Davis II sparked a 17-6 UC Irvine (3-2) run which pushed the Anteaters' lead to 27-16 just over six minutes later.
After exchanging buckets for the next few minutes, UC Irvine closed the first half by scoring 12 of the final 16 points and went into the break with a 46-28 advantage.
Atterberry, who finished with 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting, opened the second half with a 3-pointer, but pushed its lead to 25 with a 16-4 surge, putting the game out of reach.
