Bryant hangs on for 70-67 win over Brown
SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Alex Francis scored 22 points and made a key block as Bryant held on for a 70-67 victory over intrastate rival Brown on Wednesday.
Bryant (4-2) led 69-66 on Corey Maynard's layup with 2:18 left which was the last field goal of the contest.
Joe O'Shea made a three-point play to cap a 14-5 run going into the half which gave the Bulldogs the lead for good 38-37. Bryant continued the momentum to open the second with a 13-2 run.
Dan Garvin had 10 points and 10 rebounds for Bryant and O'Shea had 11 points, eight rebounds and three steals.
The Bears never led in the second half, but trailed only 69-67 with two seconds remaining when Rafael Maia had an inside shot that would have tied the game, but Francis blocked it.
Brown (4-2) won the first 11 meetings between the schools but Bryant has won the last two.
