Brown puts away Central Connecticut State 72-61
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Sean McGonagill scored 18 points and Rafael Maia added 13 with 10 rebounds as Brown defeated Central Connecticut State 72-61 Saturday.
The Bears (5-2) broke a tie early in the second half with a 16-4 run fueled by 3-pointers from Matty Madigan and McGonagill to take a 57-45 lead.
CCSU (1-5) pulled within five after a Kyle Vinales jumper at the 7:16 mark, but went cold for nearly four minutes as Dockery Walker capped off a quick 6-0 run for Brown with a layup and two free throws.
Maia was 5 of 6 on field goal attempts and McGonagill hit four 3-pointers. Leland King and Dockery Walker each contributed 10 points for Brown.
The Blue Devils had a 26-2 disadvantage in bench scoring and were outrebounded 44-31. They were led by Faronte Drakeford with 22 points. Vinales had 13 points and Brandon Peel added nine with 12 boards.
