NEW YORK -- Gerrell Martin scored 8 of his 12 points in the final 3 minutes and 40 seconds, including a game-winning 3-point shot with one second remaining, as LIU Brooklyn topped Lamar 82-79 Wednesday night.
Martin's 3-pointer with 3:40 to play gave LIU Brooklyn (4-6) its biggest lead since the game's opening minutes, 75-70, but Lamar responded by scoring nine of the next 13 points to tie the game on Nimrod Hilliard's layup with 5 seconds left.
Jason Brickman, who came into the game averaging 9.9 assists (tops in the nation) and leads active Division I players with 820 career assists, then found Martin for the game-winning 3.
Brickman finished with 17 and 12 assists.
E.J. Reed led LIU Brooklyn with 19 points and Landon Atterberry added 17.
Hilliard scored a game-high 21 points and Rhon Mitchell added 20 for Lamar (1-9). Donovan Ross finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
