Santa Clara holds on; beats Sacred Heart 70-61
SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Brandon Clark scored 30 points, 17 in the second half, as Santa Clara came back to beat Sacred Heart 70-61 in the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic on Wednesday night.
Clark was 9-of-16 shooting for the game and made all four of his free throws in the final minute for Santa Clara (6-5).
Sacred Heart (2-9) led 31-27 at halftime and pushed its lead to eight points in the first two minutes of the second half. But two Clark 3-pointers, during a 12-2 run, gave Santa Clara a 40-38 lead with 15:33 remaining.
Santa Clara's lead was trimmed to two at 48-46, but a quick 6-0 run pushed its lead to eight and the Broncos led by at least five points the rest of the way.
Louis Montes joined Sacred Heart's 1,000-point club, the 19th Pioneer to eclipse the mark. Evan Kelley led the team with 20 points.
