NEW YORK -- Ben Mockford made seven 3-pointers on eight attempts in scoring 23 points and St. Francis (NY) edged Sacred Heart 74-71 on Saturday night.
Mockford made six 3-pointers in the first half. His only 3-pointer in the second half with 1:45 left gave the Terriers a 71-68 lead. Sacred Heart's Louis Montes made a free throw and both teams then missed shots before Amdy Fall scored off Brent Jones' 11th assist of the game to put the Terriers up 73-69 with 11 seconds left. Cory Walton scored for Sacred Heart with 4 seconds left before Jones made a free throw.
The teams combined for 12 3-pointers in the first half but just one after that.
Jalen Cannon added 16 points for St. Francis (12-7, 4-1 Northeast Conference).
Chris Evans led the Pioneers (4-15, 1-3) with 14 points. Mostafa Abdel Latif and Steve Glowiak added 13 apiece. Phil Gaetano had 13 assists.
