Lipscomb holds off Tennessee Tech late, 87-79
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- J.C. Hampton and Martin Smith combined for 46 points to lead Lipscomb past Tennessee Tech 87-79 Thursday night.
Tennessee Tech trailed by 15 points midway through the second half but rallied to cut the lead to two points, 77-75, with 3:32 left to play. Ty Allen drilled a pair of 3-pointers to help spark the rally, but the Golden Eagles could not catch Lipscomb.
Hampton and Smith scored 16 seconds apart to push the Bisons lead back to six and Hampton added a 3-pointer with 1:08 left to put the game away.
Smith finished with 24 points by converting 12 of 14 shots from the free throw line to lead Lipscomb. Hampton added 22 points, hitting 5 of 6 from 3-point range.
Josiah Moore led Tennessee Tech with 12 points, with 10 each from Dennis Ogbe and Ladon Carter. The Golden Eagles were just 24 of 61 from the field.
