UAB Blazers @ LSU Tigers
O'Bryant leads LSU over UAB 86-63
BATON ROUGE, La. -- Johnny O'Bryant scored 17 points to propel LSU to an 86-63 victory against UAB Saturday.
O'Bryant scored 13 of his points in the second half as the Tigers maintained a double-digit lead. O'Bryant was the lone LSU player to score in the first 9 minutes of the second half with nine points during that stretch.
Three other players scored in double figures for the Tigers (8-2). Andre Stringer had 13 points, while Jarell Martin and Jordan Mickey had 12 apiece.
Chad Frazier was the leading scorer for the Blazers (9-3) with 15. Fahro Alihodzic and CJ Washington each had 12.
LSU hit 20 of 39 shots in racing out to a 49-33 halftime lead, making seven of their 11 shots from 3-point range. Martin, who had three 3-pointers in the first nine games, made two in the first half. Anthony Hickey and Stringer also made two 3-pointers.
LSU built a nine-point advantage in the opening 3 minutes thanks to its long-range shooting. With the score tied at 4, the Tigers made three straight 3-pointers -- one by Martin and two by Hickey.
UAB reduced its deficit to 17-11 on a three-point play by Frazier. The Tigers answered with an 11-3 run to go ahead by 14. Martin and Stringer knocked down 3-pointers during that stretch. The Blazers came no closer than eight points for the remainder of the first half.
UAB was able to stay within striking range of LSU during the first 8 minutes of the second half. A 3-pointer and two foul shots by Jordan Swing left the Blazers behind 56-44.
However, LSU wouldn't let UAB reduce its lead to single digits. The Blazers trailed by 10 points twice. On both occasions, Mickey made baskets for the Tigers. Two baskets, one a 3-pointer by Tim Quarterman, put LSU on top 69-53. UAB trailed by at least 15 points the rest of the way.
