Pepperdine squeaks past Utah Valley 58-53
MALIBU, Calif. -- Brendan Lane and Jeremy Major scored key baskets late in the game as Pepperdine rallied past Utah Valley 58-53 on Saturday night.
The Waves (4-1) were behind 45-42 with 3:55 left and surged on a 10-1 run down the stretch, closing out the contest by hitting 8 of 8 free throws. Malte Kramer and Nikolas Skouen had four each.
Lane broke a 46-46 tie with a basket from the post at 2:04 remaining, and Major drove baseline on the next possession to make it 50-46 with 1:06 to play. Lane, with 11 points and 10 rebounds, had his third double-double in five games. Skouen scored 10 points and Major 9.
Zach Nelson led Utah Valley (2-3) with 13 points, Enos Keawe added 12 and Ben Aird 10. The Wolverines hit only 31.7 percent from the field, but forced 15 turnovers to stay close. Utah Valley outscored Pepperdine 14-0 off turnovers.
