4 in double-digits as UMKC tops Miami (Ohio) 69-55
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Nelson Kirksey scored 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting to lead four players in double figures as University of Missouri-Kansas City beat Miami (Ohio) 69-55 Wednesday night.
UMKC (3-7) missed its first six field goal attempts and fell behind 10-0 in the opening minutes but a layup by Kirksey with 8:52 left in the half tied the game, capping a 12-2 run by the Kangaroos.
Martez Harrison, who scored 10 of his 12 points in the first half, hit a 3-pointer with 5:44 remaining, giving UMKC its first lead, 18-17, and sparking a 15-2 run. The Kangaroos went into halftime leading 30-21 and would never trail again.
Geovonie McKnight scored 11 points to lead the RedHawks (2-6), who hit just 3 of 13 (23.1 percent) 3-point shots and committed 25 turnovers. Will Felder added nine point and 10 rebounds.
Trinity Hall and Frank Williams Jr. scored 12 points apiece for UMKC.
