Belmont squeaks by Indiana State 96-95
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- J.J. Mann scored 23 points and Belmont scored 63 second-half points in a come-from-behind effort to beat Indiana State 96-95 on Thursday night.
Indiana State led at the half 49-33, but Belmont opened the second half outscoring the Sycamores 31-15 and tying the score at 64 with 10 minutes to play. Indiana St. never regained the lead, but got to within one point with a 3-pointer by Khristian Smith with 10 seconds remaining. Dewon Cummings then stole the ball from Belmont on the inbound play but was not able to get off a shot before the buzzer.
All five starters scored in double figures for Belmont (2-1). Drew Windler had 17 and Reece Chamberlain added 16. Belmont shot 60 percent from the field.
Smith led all Indiana State (1-1) scorers with 28 points and Jake Odum scored 23 points.
