Indiana State edges Southern Illinois 60-57
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Jake Odum scored 15 points and Indiana State overcame a halftime deficit to edge Southern Illinois 60-57 on Saturday.
An 11-0 run in the second half put Indiana State (20-6, 11-3 Missouri Valley) up 48-44, setting up a close finish as neither team led by more than six points the rest of the way.
Trailing 60-57, Southern Illinois (10-17, 6-8) opted not to foul on defense and got a stop with 16 seconds left. The Salukis missed two potential game-tying 3-pointers, before a timeout was granted with 0.3 remaining. But there was too little time on the clock for the Salukis to get a good look as Indiana State held on.
Khristian Smith added 10 points for the Sycamores.
Desmar Jackson led the Salukis with 19 points. Anthony Beane added 18 points and eight rebounds.
Indiana State's last four wins have been by six points or less.
