Hunter, Georgia St. beats LA-Lafayette 77-70
LAFAYETTE, La. -- R.J. Hunter exploded for 33 points, including 5 of 7 from 3-point range, in leading Georgia State to a 77-70 win over Louisiana-Lafayette on Thursday night.
Manny Atkins grabbed 11 rebounds and 11 points for the Panthers.
Louisiana-Lafayette led by as many as 8 points in the first half but the Panthers stormed back 4 minutes into the second period, tying the score at 37 on a Curtis Washington jumper. Hunter scored the next 18 points for Georgia, but the Cajuns were able to stay within striking distance trailing 55-52 with 7:39 left.
The Cajuns re-took the lead 62-59 at 3:49 but failed to score over the next 3 minutes as Georgia State (13-6, 6-0, Sun Belt Conference) built a 69-62 lead with a minute left and held on for the win.
Louisiana-Lafayette (12-7, 3-3) was led by Elfrid Payton's 21 points. Shawn Long added 17 points and 15 rebounds.
