Texas State gets past Louisiana-Monroe 65-57
SAN MARCOS, Texas -- Joel Wright scored eight of his 19 points with less than 3 minutes remaining to help Texas State pull away and defeat Louisiana-Monroe 65-57 on Thursday night.
Wright scored a layup to give Texas State a 53-52 lead with 2:58 to go and the Bobcats led the rest of the way. He then added a dunk and made four free throws to cap his scoring.
Gordon Ball scored six of his 11 points with less than 2 minutes to go for Texas State (7-15, 3-6 Sun Belt). Wesley Davis had 12 points, and Reid Koenen added 10 for the Bobcats, who have won two of their last three games.
Jayon James scored 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field and had five assists and three steals to lead Louisiana-Monroe (7-11, 4-6). Tylor Ongwae added 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
