Arkansas State knocks off Western Kentucky 72-58
JONESBORO, Ark. -- Melvin Johnson III scored 22 points, hitting 8 of 12 from the field, as Arkansas State beat Western Kentucky 72-58 Monday night.
The game was tight throughout the first half with ASU holding a 25-20 lead at the break. Rakeem Dickerson hit a 3-pointer to start the second half and the Red Wolves stretched the lead to 37-27 at the 15:21 mark. WKU came back to cut the lead to 37-32 following a 3-pointer by Aaron Adeoye, but Johnson answered with a 3-point jumper for a 40-32 lead with 13:15 remaining. ASU led 66-48 with 3:21 left.
Cameron Golden had 11 points for ASU (13-8, 6-4 Sun Belt Conference).
The Red Wolves made 29 of 34 free throw attempts compared to 17 of 24 for WKU.
Chris Harrison-Docks had 14 points, Trency Jackson added 11 and Adeoye had 10 for WKU (16-8, 8-3).
