Monmouth comes back for an 88-84 win vs. Hofstra
HEMPSTEAD, N.J. -- Deon Jones led Monmouth with 22 points and nine rebounds Friday night to lead a come-from-behind 88-84 victory over Hofstra.
Jones finished the night 3 for 6 from 3-point range. His final 3-pointer gave Monmouth a 72-71 lead with 4:53 left to play.
Josh James finished with 19 points and six assists for Monmouth. The Hawks (1-0) trailed by 13 with 18:15 left but James scored six straight points to pull them within two at the 8-minute mark. Moments later, a fast-break layup by Mike DiLeo tied the game at 63.
Zeke Upshaw finished with 22 points for Hofstra, but couldn't prevent a loss for Joe Mihalich in his coaching debut with the Pride. Stephen Nwaukoni pulled in 13 rebounds for Hofstra after averaging 7.9 a game last season.
