Hartford gets 1st win, downs Fairfield 63-53
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Mark Nwakamma scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to help power Hartford to its first win in three games, 63-53 over Fairfield on Wednesday night.
Yasin Kolo, a transfer from Goettingen, Germany by way of East Carolina, came off the bench for his most productive game as a Hawk, scoring 20 points and grabbing six boards. The red-shirt sophomore played just 19 minutes in Hartford's first two games, scoring four points.
Both Nwakamma and Kolo were productive from the field, shooting a combined 12-19. The Hawks (1-2) shot a combined 19 of 42 from the field and 9 of 14 from 3-point range.
K.J. Rose led Fairfield (1-1) with 14 points and cut the Hartford lead to six with 2:42 left on a pair of free throws.
Both teams committed 13 turnovers, but Hartford turned the Stags' turnovers into 18 points; Fairfield managed only five points off of turnovers.
