Manhattan defeats Marist 86-79 in OT
RIVERDALE, N.Y. -- Michael Alvarado scored nine of his career-high 33 points in overtime to lead Manhattan to an 86-79 win over Marist on Sunday.
Jay Bowie opened overtime with a jumper to give Marist a 75-73 lead. Manhattan answered with a 3-pointer by Rich Williams and the Jaspers closed on a 10-3 run, with Alvarado making three layups and three free throws during the span.
Alvarado made 13 of his 17 attempts for Manhattan (12-3, 5-1 Metro Atlantic) and Williams finished with 13 points.
Marist led 73-69 with 1:57 to play in regulation. Alvarado made a layup and Williams followed with a dunk to tie it at 73 with 1:15 to play. The teams traded turnovers, and Phillip Lawrence missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer for Marist to send the game into overtime.
Chavaughn Lewis had 25 points, five assists for Marist (5-11, 2-4) and Khalid Hart added 24 points.
