Quinnipiac tops Marist 83-78
HAMDEN, Conn. -- Umar Shannon scored 26 points as Quinnipiac topped Marist 83-78 on Monday.
Quinnipiac (15-8, 10-4 Metro Atlantic) got balanced scoring, as Ousmane Drame scored 16 points with 13 rebounds, while Ike Azotam and Zaid Hearst both dropped 15. The Bobcats shot 48 percent as a team, including 9 of 21 from beyond the arc and 16 of 19 free throws. Quinnipiac also held a 44-37 rebounding advantage.
Chavaughn Lewis led Marist (9-15, 6-8) with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Khallid Hart had 21 as well, with Jay Bowie adding 12 points. The Red Foxes made 12 of 22 3-pointers.
Marist went up 14 after Bowie's jumper made it 27-13, but the Bobcats clawed their way back into the game, pulling even at halftime, 40-40.
Marist led by two with 7:29 left, but Shannon made a layup, 3-pointer and a pair of free throws in succession to take over the game.
