Abilene Christian finishes Houston Baptist, 87-81
ABILENE, Texas -- Abilene Christian was 6-for-6 from the free throw line in the final 30 seconds and limited Houston Baptist to just one field goal in the final three minutes to earn an 87-81 victory Thursday night.
Cody Joyce tied the game at 74-74 with 4:13 left to play but the Wildcats took the lead for good on a pair of free throws by Michael Grant, who tacked on a jumper as Abilene Christian closed the game with a 13-6 run.
Parker Wenz led five players in double-figure scoring, tossing in 27 points on 8-for-11 shooting from the floor and 10-of-11 shooting from the free throw line for Abilene Christian (8-15, 2-7 Southland). Julian Edmonson scored 18 points, Jacob Lancaster 13 and Michael Grant and Rafael Farley 10 each.
Joyce led Houston Baptist (4-19, 1-10) with a 22-point effort, with Colter Lasher contributing 14.
