Texas A&M-CC defeats Houston Baptist 66-61
HOUSTON -- Zane Knowles had 10 points and 11 rebounds as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi held on for a 66-61 victory over Houston Baptist Saturday night.
Hameed Ali scored 13 points and Brandon Pye added 11 for Texas A&M-CC (14-14, 11-4 Southland Conference).
Texas A&M-CC had a 29-21 halftime lead and stretched that to 45-31 with 14:37 remaining. Houston Baptist kept coming back and went on a 15-2 run to close to 49-48 with 8:45 left. Ricmonds Vilde dunked to tie the score at 54 with 4:43 remaining.
After an 8-0 Texas-A&M-CC run, Houston Baptist closed within three with 21 seconds remaining following a 3-pointer by Caleb Crayton. John Jordan made a free throw and Rashawn Thomas followed with another to seal the victory for the Islanders.
Vilde had 13 points, Rob Lewis added 12 and Marcel Smith and Crayton had 10 apiece for Houston Baptist (5-22, 2-13).
