San Jose State edges Pepperdine 83-77
MALIBU, Calif. -- Jaleel Williams scored a career-high 22 points and Devante Wilson added 20 as San Jose State gave first-year head coach Dave Wojcik his first victory with an 83-77 win over Pepperdine Wednesday night.
Wilson hit six 3-pointers in the second half with four coming during a 20-8 run that gave the Spartans the lead at 13:12. They went ahead for good when Rashad Muhammad drove for a bucket and followed with a 3-pointer for a 78-75 advantage with 1:56 remaining. Stacy Davis' dunk made it a one-point game, but Williams made a 3-pointer and the Spartans added two free throws while Pepperdine didn't score again.
The Spartans (1-4) made 10 of 15 of their second-half 3-point attempts while the Waves (3-1) went 0 for 11 after making five in the first half. SJSU shot 51.9 percent from long range.
Brendan Lane scored a career-high 23 and Davis 20 for Pepperdine.
