Scott leads Colorado past Air Force 81-57
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Josh Scott scored 16 points, Askia Booker had 13, and Colorado routed Air Force 81-57 Saturday for its seventh win in a row.
Scott also pulled down 13 rebounds, helping Colorado (7-1) dominate the boards, out-rebounding Air Force 42-25. Xavier Johnson added 11 points for the Buffaloes, who won their fourth straight against the Falcons and improved to 20-3 in the all-time series between the schools.
Colorado led 34-24 at halftime, breaking on top from the outset when Booker hit 3-pointers on consecutive possessions for the game's first points. The Buffaloes led by as many as 17 points, using a 6-0 spurt that Scott started with a tip-in to go up 29-12 with 5:41 left in the first half.
Up by 10 at the break, Colorado stretched its lead to 51-30 by scoring 17 of the first 23 points opening the second half. Booker hit his third 3-pointer of the game and Johnson converted a three-point play to open the flurry for the Buffaloes.
The Falcons responded with a layup by Justin Hammonds and a pair of free throws by Zach Moer around a layup by Scott but couldn't make a dent in Colorado's lead. By the time Dustin Thomas banked in a 15-foot jumper with 9:10 remaining, the Buffaloes had opened a 30-point lead and began to empty their bench.
Marek Olesinski helped the Falcons narrow the deficit by connecting on a 3-pointer before the end of the period.
Tre' Coggins scored 18 points to lead the Falcons (3-4).
