UNLV Rebels @ Boise State Broncos
After review, Boise St nips UNLV in overtime 91-90
BOISE, Idaho -- UNLV point guard Deville Smith's game-winning shot was waived off after two video reviews, and Boise State took down the Runnin' Rebels 91-90 on Saturday night in overtime.
Smith raced up the floor after Derrick Marks had scored with 3.4 seconds left and got off a shot that swished. Both teams stood anxiously awaiting the review on a shot that was ruled good. After reviewing the video twice, referee Randy McCall called both coaches over to the scorer's table and delivered the news that the shot would not count. Boise State coach Leon Rice did a double fist pump and the crowd of 9,010 erupted.
Marks scored all 13 of his team's points in overtime as Boise State (18-9, 8-6 Mountain West) won its third consecutive game. Marks had been a non-factor in regulation, scoring only four points on 2-of-8 shooting before taking over.
Ryan Watkins finished with 22 points and 15 rebounds for the Broncos, who also got 22 points from Anthony. Watkins hit four free throws in the final 1:18 of regulation to help force overtime.
Six UNLV (17-10, 8-6) players reached double figures, led by Smith's 22 points and seven assists. He also had a last-second shot roll off the rim that would have won it in regulation.
UNLV led 73-64 with 4:09 to play but shaky foul shooting allowed Boise State to stay close. After starting the game 10-of-14 from the line, the Rebels missed six of their final 10 from the line.
Nick Duncan finished with 12 points for Boise State, which shot 50 percent from the field and committed only six turnovers.
Bryce DeJean-Jones and Khem Birch scored 16 points apiece for the Runnin' Rebels. Birch also had 11 rebounds and six blocked shots. Roscoe Smith finished with 14 points and eight rebounds.
