Brown takes down Cornell 78-66
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Norman Hobbie and Steven Spieth each scored 18 points, leading Brown over Cornell 78-66 on Friday.
Brown (10-7, 2-1 Ivy League) overcame a halftime deficit, outscoring Cornell 48-33 in the second half.
The Bears opened the second half on a 19-9 run, led by 10 points from Sean McGonagill during the stretch. Hobbie scored 12 of his points in the second half, including back-to-back 3-pointers to give Brown a 55-42 lead with just under 12 minutes left. Cornell (1-16, 0-3) was unable to cut the deficit to fewer than eight points the rest of the way.
Brown shot 55 percent from the field, including 8 of 18 from 3-point range. Hobbie was 6 of 9 from long range. McGonagill added 15 points, eight rebounds and six assists.
Jake Matthews led Cornell with a career-high 17 points and Nolan Cressler had 16 points. Devin Cherry added 13 points and 12 rebounds.
