Hartford coasts to 67-56 win over UMBC
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- Corban Wroe scored 21 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead Hartford to a 67-56 win over Maryland-Baltimore County on Sunday.
Hartford (16-15, 10-6 America East) broke open the game with a 16-5 run sparked by a Taylor Dyson 3-pointer and took a 29-19 advantage into the break, then continued to outpace UMBC in the second half.
Yolonzo Moore II contributed 14 points and Mark Nwakamma had 10 points plus eight rebounds for the Hawks, who notched their first back-to-back winning seasons in 14 years with the win while also avenging a Jan. 25 loss to UMBC.
Trailing by as many 24 points in the second half, UMBC (9-20, 5-11) shaved the gap to single digits on a Charles Taylor Jr. jumper that made it 64-55 with a minute to play.
Rodney Elliott led the Retrievers with 21 points and Taylor finished with 11 points and six rebounds.
