DETROIT -- Juwan Howard Jr. scored 17 points and had eight rebounds as Detroit beat Rhode Island 70-68 on Sunday.
The Titans did not make a field goal after Evan Bruinsma put Detroit ahead 67-62 with 3:17 left to play. But the Titans made 3 of 4 free throws down the stretch and Rhode Island's Biggie Minnis' last-second drive to the basket fell short.
