Stony Brook beats Detroit 104-102 in 3OT thriller
DETROIT -- Jameel Warney scored 32 points, pulled in 21 rebounds and hit the go-ahead layup as Stony Brook outlasted Detroit 104-102 in triple-overtime Sunday.
The Seawolves (5-2) faced an early 10-point deficit in the second half, but surged on a 20-0 run over the next eight minutes.
Detroit (3-4) climbed back and led 75-72 late, but Anthony Jackson nailed a game-tying 3-pointer at the end of regulation.
Stony Brook trailed in double overtime, but a four-point play by Jackson and a Warney layup forced a third overtime.
Warney pulled in a rebound from a missed jumper by Jackson, and laid it in with five seconds remaining. Juwan Howard Jr. missed a contested 3-pointer as time expired.
Warney was 13 of 14 from the field and Jackson scored 24 points.
Evan Bruinsma had 32 points, 14 boards and a school-record 20 free throws for the Titans, while Howard added 25 points.
